About uAE General information Geography The United Arab Emirates, in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula, extends along part of the Gulf of Oman and the southern coast of the Persian Gulf. The 2 nation has an area of approximately 83.600 km , a similar size to Austria. Its neighbours are Saudi Arabia to the west and south, Qatar to the north, and Oman to the east. Climate UAE has a tropical desert climate because of its location within the Northern desert belt. Summers are hot, humid and dry, with an average high around 40°C (104°F), and overnight lows around 30°C (86°F) Most days are sunny throughout the year. Winters are warm and short with an average high of 23°C (73°F) and overnight lows of 14°C (57°F). Precipitation, however, has been increasing in the last few decades with accumulated rain reaching 150 mm (5.91 in) per year. The weather in UAE can bring short and irregular rainfall as is typical for the Middle East. Most of the rainfall occurs in the December to March period. The weather between December and March remains warm and is considered as most comfortable climatic conditions throughout the year. Government Federation formed in 1971 by seven emirates known as the Trucial States – Abu Dhabi (the largest), Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al-Khaimah, and Umm Al-Qaiwain. In addition to a federal president and prime minister, each emirate has a separate ruler who oversees the local government. Local currency The local currency is the dirham, which is pegged at AED 3.65 to 1 US dollar. Dress code UAE has a dress code based on respect for the culture and religion of the country. It is not hard to follow and will make your visit/stay here a more pleasant one and will help you avoid causing any of the many nationalities here any offence. In a nutshell whilst you are out in public you should have everything from your shoulders to knees covered – which is not hard to do! You should also not wear clothing that is too tight or see through. Cleavage should also be covered as much as possible. 2
